Product Description Constant Simplicity. Elegant yet durable enough for everyday use, iittala's Set of Two Kartio 13 oz. Clear Tumblers are a perfect fit in your hand. Designed with the living spirit in mind and with the wisdom required to give thought to simple things. For your family. For yourself. The Kartio tumbler - part of the Kartio collection. Only from iittala. Amazon.com The late Finnish designer Kaj Franck believed in paring away frills to expose straightforward, practical forms in tableware. He also believed the modern home could benefit in spirit from mixing colors and shapes. Bringing these creative impulses to light, Franck designed the Kartio collection in 1958 and the simple, tapered, tinted glassware has been a design classic ever since. The Kartio drinking glass, available in a 7-ounce juice size or 13-ounce all-purpose beverage tumbler, is packaged in a set of two, in a choice of both clear or both tinted the same color. Iittala also produces Kartio carafes, pitchers, and bowls in the same beautiful blue-to-green range. Made in Finland only by Iittala, the 4-1/2-by-3-1/2-inch Kartio tumblers are safe for dishwasher cleaning and make terrific gifts. --Ann Bieri

We own a set of the previous iteration of these tumblers- we were very happy with them through the last 10 or so years. We needed to add a few more due to breakage over time, so I was pleased to find these. The original glasses were about 1/4 inch taller and slightly slimmer and fit the hand very comfortably. The new ones are a slightly different shape and don't feel the same in our hands- but I suppose we will get used to them.In the end, these glasses are still beautiful, well made, nicely balanced and I would recommend them.BTW, we also own them in several colors as a mixed set and they look great. They are lovely. I have gotten a little bit of chipping on the rim, but I can smooth it off with a fingernail file to make it safe and look good again. I liked them well enough to order more of them, so as to have a bigger set.I saw these in a local shop and then ordered a dozen, as I loved the size and simplicity. Less than a year later, several have had to be thrown away because of chips on the rim. We are not rough with them, but they are used daily. I think that the dishwasher is where all the bad action happens. Still, this isn't acceptable. They are pricey enough. To be fair, I will say that only the tall tumblers have had this issue. I ordered six of the smaller size, too, and they have fared better. If you plan to hand wash your glasses and not stack them, you may be fine with either size.We had all Duralex Picardie glasses before, and they'd spontaneously combust, just as many reviewers warned. They also did not retain their clarity when washed again and again (looked quite scratched up).I am still in search of a durable, sleek, clear drinking glass. Any recommendations would be welcome.I just love these glasses. The color is beautiful and looks good no matter what drink you have in it. I have owned these for years, and decided recently to buy more. These are a very slightly different shape than my old ones (maybe a bit wider). But it's not a noticeable difference and I'm so glad I can still get them.I purchased two of these several years ago, although expensive. However after all my other glasses finally broke I purchased 6 more about a year ago. All 8 (2 from several years) are fine. Follow manufactures instructions for loading in dish washer (not touching each other) and they do just fine. Love the colors and size for dinner. I also purchased the fruit juice size & have had the same results with them.I love the Kartio series of Iittalla, despite its very high price. They are very solid, you will enjoy the "heavy glass" feeling in your hand and they are very good looking whether full or empty. I have no long term experience with them yet, i.e. I don't know how resistant they will be frequent dishwasher experience, but am optimistic they will last longer than the Ikea crap...I love these glasses. They have a nice weight to them and the blue color is unique. The medium size is nice. These are beautiful and wonderful to have around the house.Pros:-Look great-Lots of color options-Two great sizes (13 and 7 oz)Cons-They can chip so be careful-DO NOT stack them straight out of the dishwasher. They expand/contract and will stick together. And then they crack.Overall, we love them. Highly recommended!
